Obituary of Marian John Zemsta

ZEMSTA, Marian John Sadly, after a short battle with cancer, our dad, Marian John Zemsta, passed away on the 16th of July, 2012 in his 84th year. He is predeceased by his wife Jean Mary Zemsta . He was much loved by his children Mary Alice, John Michael, Dianne and Christine (Dan) and beloved by his grandchildren Tara (Tim), Emily and Nikki. He was also anticipating the arrival of his first great-grandchild, Ava, who will learn of his legacy through many family and friends. He attended St. Michael†™s College School and then worked at Eastern Steel in the Accounting Department. He married mom in 1950 and shortly after joined the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force. Dad loved being a police officer. Whether he was walking the beat, riding his motorcycle or working cases as a detective, he loved every aspect of the job. He was also a long time member of the Knights of Columbus and was a Third Degree Knight. After 37 years on the force, Sergeant Zemsta retired in 1989 and moved to St. Catharines where he spent his free time at his favourite watering hole Tim Horton†™s. He enjoyed his grandchildren and his special buddies, †œBogie†� and †œOliver†�. The family would like to thank Dr. Waler for his care and compassion through Dads†™ illness and to the nurses on 6 West at SCGH, especially Stephanie and Janet as well as the nurses Anne, Andrea, Sandra, and Cathy on the Palliative Care Unit of the SCGH who helped him pass peacefully and with dignity. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Mr. Zemsta's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Thursday, July 26th from10:00-10:45. A Memorial Service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11am. Inurnment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Palliative Care Unit at the St Catharines General Hospital would be greatly appreciated by the family.
