Obituary of Lucia Marano
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we share the loss of Lucia "Lucy" Marano on Friday, January 20, 2023 at Hospice Niagara, surrounded by her family. In her 92nd year, she was the loving and devoted wife of Gaetano (predeceased in 2014), cherished mother of Tony (Irene), Rose (Vincenzo), John (Julie), and Angelo (Mary). Sister of Antonietta, Giuseppe, and the late Vincenzo, adored Nonna to Angela, Christopher, Melissa, Tara, Gaetano, Elyse, Lucia and Angela (Angie), 9 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and her many dear friends.
Lucia and Gaetano immigrated to Canada from Sicily in 1967 with their 4 children, leaving behind their family. We are eternally grateful for her sacrifices in order to provide us with a better life.
Nothing was more important to her than family. Prized for her amazing cooking skills, our mother loved preparing her Sicilian breads and specialty dishes for family who waited with eager anticipation!
Lucia’s deep faith, love and devotion for her family, are her legacies to us. We will miss her terribly, and she will forever be in our hearts.
A very special thanks to her wonderful PSWs Kathy, Kathleen and Bridgette, and her nurses Irena and Georgina. We are tremendously appreciative of Hospice Niagara for the care and compassion given to Lucia, and to her family.
The family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 585 Carlton Street, on Tuesday January 24th, from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral Liturgy for Lucia "Lucy" will be celebrated at Star of the Sea Church, 34 Elgin St. on Wednesday, January 25th at 11a.m. Entombment at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens to follow.
