Obituary of Megan Sheila Umer
Megan Umer (Guiltinan)
1958-2022
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Megan on November 30, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. She leaves behind her husband of 38.5 years, Dario, daughters Claire (Matt) and Molly (Tyler) and granddaughter, Charlotte. Predeceased by her mother and father (Betty & Keith), and brother Chris. Lovingly remembered by surviving sisters Bunty Swanson and Erin Nightingale, and many nieces, nephews, extended families and friends. Megan's sense of humour, zest for life, contagious laugh and smile will be missed by many.
Megan was an avid reader and loved solving daily Wordle puzzles. Cottage trips every summer are synonymous with mom, where she could be found on the dock with a good book and her coffee. She loved board games, with Scrabble and Sequence a constant for family game nights. Over mom's working life, she met many colleagues who turned into close, lifelong pals. She was a social butterfly and enjoyed many nights out with her friends.
She was generous and selfless, putting everyone she loved first, even during her many months of treatment. She was smart, witty, and lit up every room she entered. An incredible woman that will be greatly missed by many.
The family would like to thank the team at the St. Catharines Walker Family Cancer Centre, especially Doctor VanderMeer and Nurse Practitioner Deb Pagoda.
In keeping with Megan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will follow in Summer 2023. The family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 7th from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A Final Tribute for Megan will be held in the Ceremony Room of the funeral home Thursday, December 8th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Gillian's Place.
