Obituary of Rosa Maria Miele
MIELE, Rosa Maria (nee Cianfano)
Rosa, in her 92nd year, passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side, on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, and is now heavenly reunited with her loving husband Giuseppe (1998). Her family greatly appreciates the compassionate care provided to Rosa by the staff at Mount Carmel Retirement Home.
Rosa is survived by her daughters Maria (Gregg) DeVita and Antoinette McGregor. Her joy was being Nonna to her three grandchildren, John (Megha) DeVita, Michael (Liz) DeVita, and Julia DeVita.
She is also survived by her sisters Marianna Longariello and Francesca Longariello in Lucerne Switzerland. Rosa is predeceased by her sister Lucia Cianfano, and her parents Maria Antonia Gallo and Antonio Cianfano, from Italy.
Rosa and Giuseppe immigrated to Canada in the late 1950’s and cherished the life they built. Rosa was a strong, independent woman and always impressed upon her daughters the importance of education and financial prudence.
She was a dedicated parishioner of St. Alfred Church. Rosa most enjoyed being outside. She was dedicated to her work on the Whitty family farms for many years. Rosa enjoyed taking care of her vegetable garden. Her grandchildren will always fondly remember their favourite dish from Nonna’s kitchen – stuffed peppers (grown from her garden) and homemade sausage. Rosa appreciated her wonderful community of neighbours on Chalmers St., where she lived for almost 50 years before moving to Mt. Carmel Retirement Home.
Family will receive friends at George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines.on Friday December 9th from 4 to 8 pm. Funeral Mass to be held on Saturday December 10 at St. Alfred Church at 9:30 a.m. with entombment to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
