Obituary of Marion Jean Edgar
EDGAR, Marion Jean (nee Botting)
May 11, 1927 †" August 11, 2012
On May 11, 1927, Mom was born to Rena and Carmen Botting in St. Catharines, Ontario. She grew up in mid-town St. Catharines on George Street and attended elementary school at Alexander Public on Henry Street. Mom then spent her high school years at the St. Catharines Collegiate and, upon graduation, entered the Mack School of Nursing at the General Hospital. While working at the hospital she met a young patient named Bill Edgar who had burned his feet while working at St. Catharines Brass Works. Mom thought Bill to be †œfresh† and resisted his approaches until they ran into each other one Saturday evening at a dance at the †œY†. Dad pawned off his date for the night on our Uncle George and once again began his pursuit of the beautiful young nurse.
Marion and Bill married on October 21, 1950 and have spent close to sixty-two years together, taking care of their family. It looked as if all of the kids would be boys when Kelly, Kerry and Kevin came along. Kevin died during an operation when he was about 2-1/2 so Mom and Dad decided to start work on the next half of their family. Kirby, the fourth son, was born and then finally a baby girl, Kimberly, joined the Edgar clan.
The kids all stayed very close while setting up their own extensions of the family. Kelly and Darlene live in St. Catharines and have two daughters. The eldest, Meghan, lives in Toronto with her new husband Richard Mitchell and Shannon currently resides in Shanghai, China. Kerry and Heather also brought up two daughters. The oldest, Bridget, married Craig Bullen and they have a daughter Cassidy who recently acquired two new twin cousins, Violet and Eileen, who were born to Carolyn, the youngest daughter, and Luke Irvine. Kirby and Stacey live here in St. Catharines with their two sons Kevin and Kieran and Kim married Gord Bartlett and they live not too far away in Canborough, Ontario.
Marion and Bill have been living, still together, at Garden City Manor and after struggling with Alzheimer†™s for the last few years, Mom passed away quietly in the General Hospital on Saturday morning, August 11th from pneumonia.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place.
Marion's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Thursday, August 16th from 10-10:45 am. A service to celebrate her life will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11am with a private family inurnment at a later date. If desired, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society or the Canadian Red Cross would be appreciated by the family.
Everyone will miss you, Mom. We love you.
