Obituary of Horst Gunter Kuehn

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Horst Kuehn.

Beloved husband of Heidi for 63 years, and much loved Dad of four daughters, Anita (Pete), Danielle, Angela (Brent), and Lynette (Tim). Cherished Opa of Lindsey-Flynn and Evan.

Our Dad was born in the state of East Prussia, Germany.  During World War 2 he lived in an orphanage with his older sister and little brother for a lengthy time.  They were eventually miraculously reunited with his mother, although sadly his little brother died beforehand.  At the age of 21, he came to Canada to start a new life, and a few years later met Heidi whom he married and built a life together with.

He spent most of his years living in the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, 16 years in Warkworth, Ontario, and more recently at the Lindenhaus Retirement Village in St. Catharines.

Our Dad's passion was gardening, flowers and nature.  He loved to spend time at the cottage near Bancroft where he enjoyed boating, ATV'ing, feeding the birds, and playing Rummy.  He loved to travel including several road trips across Canada and the U.S., visiting Danielle in Australia, Hawaii, and many trips back home to see his sister and Mom in Germany. He loved a good game of chess.  He was a retired GM worker where he could be seen whizzing around on the tow-motor, delivering parts throughout the factory.

He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

The Family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Sunday, August 28th from 6-8pm and on Monday morning from 10-11 am at Grace Lutheran Church, 213 Linwell Rd. Final Tribute to follow in the church at 11am. Interment Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery. If so desired, donation made to Grace Lutheran Church or Canadian Lutheran World Relief in Horst's memory would be appreciated by his family.
