Obituary of Jadwiga Durski
JADWIGA DURSKI
August 21, 1934 – August 2, 2022
Passed away peacefully at home and is now home with God.
Pre-deceased by sisters Marysia, Stanislawa, Apolonia, Janina and brothers Edmunt and Antoni. Daughter of Michal and Maria Kolpak (Poland).
Jadwiga was well-acquainted with sorrow and suffering, which helped her to live intensely and to love deeply. A war child during WWII, she knew loss, fear, hunger and oppression. She was the consummate survivor, overcomer and thriver, having no space for failure or resignation in the vocabulary of her life. She never met a problem she did not tackle, and usually won.
Jadwiga was a registered nurse in Poland, specializing in the OR. She came to Canada in 1970 on a visit and met and married former Polish soldier and business owner, Joseph Durski. They welcomed a daughter, Marta, a year later. After working together for many years, they retired in 1987. Jadwiga enjoyed hosting huge parties and was renowned for her hospitality and outstanding cooking. She loved gardening, taking care of her home to perfection, working hard, reading everything, and giving her opinion on everything, too.
An active member of her local parish, Jadwiga showed tenacious faith, even to the end of her physical life. She is now fully healed, fully loved, and fully rejoicing with Jesus and her family and friends.
Jadwiga was “all in, all the time”, pushing for excellence of character and performance. She was intensely principled, brave, fiercely devoted, innovative, amazingly energetic, helpful to all, highly intelligent, perpetually curious and above all, deeply compassionate. Her two greatest loves, daughter Marta and grandson Joseph, will carry on her brilliant spirit, live by her wisdom, and keep the memory of her remarkable life alive. Words cannot convey how heartbroken we are and how much we will miss her.
Until we meet again in heaven, moja droga Mama i moja kochana Babcia. Z Bogiem.
