Obituary of Cornelius Johannes Van Gentevoort

VAN GENTEVOORT, Cornelius (Casey)

Passed away peacefully in his own home on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the age of 84.

Dearest husband of Mary for 61 years, and cherished father of Jackie Kerry (Ian), Marlene, Karen Morris (Mark), and Mike. Beloved Opa, he will be sadly missed by grandchildren Donovan (Beth) and Brandon Kerry, Nathan, Lucas, Chloe and Eric Andre, and Joshua, Ryan and Chris Morris.

He is predeceased by his parents, five brothers and two sisters. Casey is fondly remembered by his brothers John and Henk, and sisters Coby and Corrie.

Casey followed his dream of being a farmer by immigrating to Canada in 1959 from The Netherlands.  Mary soon joined him in Canada and they married in 1960.  He was a proud Niagara grape grower, dedicated to his work on the farm and to his family. 

Casey had a strong faith and was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, as a 4th Degree Knight, and volunteered for many years at the Warehouse of Hope.

The family will receive visitors at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St, St Catharines on Thursday, July 14th from 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm, with vigil prayers at 3 pm.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at St Mary of the Assumption Church, 169 St Paul Cres, St Catharines, on Friday, July 15th at 11 am with rite of committal at Victoria Lawn Cemetery to follow.  Casey's family would like to thank nurses Paul and Tracy and all the PSWs who helped to care for him.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Warehouse of Hope or St Mary of the Assumption Church would be greatly appreciated by the family.
