Robert Sutherland

Obituary of Robert Douglas Sutherland

It is with deep sadness that we share the peaceful passing of Bob Sutherland on July 2, 2022 at the age of 74. Loving and devoted husband of 48 years to Christine Dale Sutherland (née McCallum), proud father to Jamie, Ashley (Simon Beatty), and Matt (Megan), caring grandfather ‘Sudsy’ to Lauren, Noah, and Lennon.

Bob led a distinguished career as a Chartered Accountant for 52 years. Growing up in St. Catherines Ontario, he graduated from Sir Winston Churchill High School and went on to earn a Commerce degree from Queen’s University and his chartered accountant designation. He began his career in Toronto working for Clarkson Gordon, becoming a Partner with Ernst & Young for many years, he stayed active in his profession on a consultancy basis well into retirement.

Affectionately known as ‘Suds’ by many, Bob is known for his signature qualities: a gentle heart, a great sense of humour and a steadfast loyalty. He enjoyed many rounds of golf at the St. Catharines' Golf and Country Club and courses around Ontario, watching sports with his kids, and most of all spending time at the cottage on Stony Lake with his family doing what he loved most: fixing docks and flagpoles, building new decks, enjoying the beauty of the outdoors, and watching the many boats sail by. He will be dearly missed, and his legacy will live on in his children, grandchildren, and the friends and family that knew his kind and generous heart.
