Obituary of Virginia Straw
Straw, Virginia
Peacefully, on Friday June 17 2022, Virginia Straw, (nee Slack), in her 100th year. Beloved wife of the late Bob Straw, dear mother of Stephen, John (Laurie), Laurie (Joe) and Geoff. Loving Gramma Gin to Adam (Kristen), Jen, Susie (Paul) and Matt (Courtney). Great Gramma to Ben, Jacob and Hannah. Predeceased by her sister Madeleine Curnow and brother John Slack.
Virginia was born at Springvale, Ontario and was raised on the family farm, a place that she loved dearly and where she learned about the importance of family, neighbours and good friends. She served with the Red Cross during World War 2. She was a lifelong member of the United Church of Canada and was an active participant for many years at Carleton United in St. Catharines where she was involved in the U.C.W, choir, worship and lay reading. She also studied pastoral care visitation and enjoyed reaching out to friends and parishioners who were either hospital or housebound. She was a gentle and gracious lady, and believed in supporting her community, always with a kind approach and ready to help someone in need. She worked for the Customs and Excise Department of the federal government before retiring in 1988. She loved live theatre , enjoying many good plays over the years and in retirement had the chance to spend more time reading and travelling.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Linhaven Regional Home for their support and care of our dear mother . Private family service to take place.
