Obituary of Pia Maria Bertolin
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Pia Bertolin on April 21, 2022, at the age of 87 after a brief illness.
Predeceased by her husband Gino (1985), Pia is survived by her loving daughter Linda (Matthew), her adoring grandchildren Leo and Luca, her sister Pierina (Giovanni), and brothers Gino (Lina) and Franco (Eugenia). Pia is also predeceased by her parents Enrico and Elena Baldo, and brothers Artemio (Meli) and Giovanni (Dirce). She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Pia moved to Canada from Italy in 1965. After the passing of her beloved husband, Gino, she raised her young daughter on her own with strength and grace. Pia was known for her delicious home-made gnocchi and was a skilled seamstress. She also enjoyed being part of the local Italian community and playing Bingo twice a week. Pia had an independent spirit and fulfilled a dream of visiting her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren in New Zealand when she bravely made the long trip on her own at the age of 83. She will be forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be held at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 11:00am – 12:30pm. Following visitation, a Funeral Mass will be held at ST. ALFRED’S CHURCH, 272 Vine St., St. Catharines from 1:00 – 2:00pm.
