Obituary of Robert Charles Shepherd
SHEPHERD, Robert Charles (Bob) – Born in St. Catharines on Nov 27, 1944, he left us suddenly at 77 years of age on Monday, February 21, 2022.
Robert is predeceased by his loving wife Jan (2016) and by his parents Robert and Ella Shepherd. He is also predeceased by his brother-in-law David Tucker.
He leaves behind his two children, Melissa Wayland (Scott) of St. Catharines and Tyler Shepherd (Shawna) of Hamilton and his grandchildren Alyssa, Mackenzie, Shae, Hannah, Tessa and Carter. Robert was also about to welcome two new grandsons into the family in October, Dakota and Jarrett. He is also survived by his two sisters Elaine Tucker and Christine Honsinger (Murray) and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In his teenage years, Robert was a member of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps and was a gold medal rower for The St. Catharines Collegiate. After high school, he began working full time for General Motors where he remained until he retired in 1996.
Robert, or Bob, as he was known to all of his friends, was a competitive skeet shooter. He won many awards over the years for his excellence in skeet shooting and proudly displayed his many trophies and plaques in his home. He loved the time he spent with his many friends at the St. Catharines Gun Club, The Silverdale Sports Centre and, most recently, The Mohawk Gun Club.
Robert was also an avid hunter and had many adventures on his trips to Pelee Island for pheasant and to Northern Ontario for moose and deer. He also loved to fish and go duck hunting.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines, 905-937-4444 on Saturday, March 26, 2022. Visitation begins at 10am followed by the service at 11am.
