Obituary of Gerry Holierhoek
Gerry (Gerarda) Holierhoek (nee Custers) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 28, 2022 at the age of 88. Gerry was the loving wife of Nick Holierhoek, cherished mother of Michael Holierhoek (Bunny), Maureen Daschuk (Scott) and Marsha Petch (Jerry). She was the proud grandmother of Connor Petch (Hillary), Braedon Petch (Vanessa), Dawson Petch (Hawklene), Julia Habing (Dr. Dave), Callei Macfarlane (Andrew). She adored her great grandchildren Drew (Mazie), Bryce, Annie and Miya and her great-great grandchild Jace. Her brothers George (Barb), Ben (Sharon), and sister Helen Pietersen will miss her greatly. Gerry is predeceased by her sister Joanne Hasenack, brothers Jack and Peter Custers and grandson Bryce Macfarlane.
Gerry wanted to express her personal thanks to her “terrific husband and best friend Nick” who was her partner for more than 65 years. Nick was a devoted partner who cared for her tirelessly and ensured that she was able to fulfill her wish of staying in her home.
Gerry also extends her special thanks to Dr. Jeremy Child and all the nurses and personal service workers from LHIN, Paramed and Care Partners for providing such amazing support. A very deep and heartfelt thank you to Gerry’s sister Helen Pietersen for being so supportive. Gerry specifically wanted to thank her friends and sisters in song Cathy, Barb and Mary.
Gerry loved to sing! She was a member of the St. Alfred’s choir for 61 years and sang barbershop chorus with Sing Niagara for more than 30 years. Those left behind will cherish the beautiful cross-stich work that she created and gifted so generously. Some of her best memories are from her extensive travel with Nick, family and friends.
