Ann Halliday

Obituary of Ann Halliday

Ann Halliday (nee Di Maurizio)

January 30, 1933-January 26, 2022

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, Ann Halliday (nee DiMaurizio), who passed after a lengthy battle with Dementia. Ann was a wonderful role model who was always there to listen, support and care for others and was the pillar of strength for our family. Ann will be greatly missed by her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, Jack Halliday, her daughters Kathy (Mario) Lostracco and Laura (Chris) Van de Laar. Ann will be greatly missed by her grandchildren whom she thought the world of. So many wonderful memories were made through regular Sunday dinners, walks to the park, babysitting on a whim and most importantly, just being present in their lives. Holding grandma close to their hearts are her grandchildren Michael and Melissa Lostracco (Eric), Erica (Phil) Blythe and Nathan Van de Laar. Ann is predeceased by her grandson, Andrew Van de Laar, her sisters Mary Gasbarini, Lida Lorito and her brother Ugo DiMaurizio. She leaves behind her youngest brother Dino Di Maurizio and her brother-in-law Mario Lorito. She will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Ann enjoyed a career as a radio producer at CKTB which included working with Rex Stimers on his famous phantom broadcasts of the Teepees games. She turned down an opportunity to advance her career in Chicago to raise her family in the city she loved a decision she never regretted. Our family would like to thank Pleasant Manor, Radiant Care for the love and care they gave Ann over the last 4 years.

Due to Covid restrictions and the safety for all, a private funeral mass will be taking place over the weekend. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with her memory, please share an act of kindness toward others and hug your family members tighter, appreciating and cherishing the memories being made. If you choose, donations can be made to the neuromuscular disease clinic, McMaster Children’s Hospital, Dr. Tarnopolsky in memory of Andrew Van de Laar.
