Obituary of Douglas Howard Herbert

Douglas Howard Herbert

June 19, 1938-December 30, 2021

Doug passed away quickly and peacefully in his 84th year, at Niagara Health-St. Catharines Site, on December 30, 2021. Doug will be sadly missed by Beth, his devoted wife of 60 years. He was a loving dad to Tracey (Gerard), Tim (Leanne) and Troy (Sheilah). He was a proud and adoring Grampie to Braeden (Heather), Faryn (John), Brenna (Eric), Alex (Emma-Lee), Emily, Shelby and Tristan. Doug was blessed to have one great grand daughter (Tessa) who brought him so much joy in the past year. Doug is also survived by his siblings Gord (Bev), Barry (Holly) and Keith (Yvonne), as well as many nieces and nephews. Doug will be sadly missed by his dear friends, Peggy Fraser and Irma and Dick Mallory and their families. He is predeceased by best friends John Fraser and Bruce Culp.

Doug worked at General Motors as a General Supervisor for 40 years. He received dialysis at the St. Catharines hospital for the last 5 years, as well as home care by Paramed, Care Partners and March of Dimes and had great fondness for the wonderful and compassionate staff who cared for him. Doug was an incredibly kind and caring man who’s greatest joy in life was showering his children, grandchildren and great grand daughter with lots of affection, ‘Doug stories” of wisdom and a handful of candy. Doug proudly attended and cheered on his children and grandchildren in all sports and activities, always putting his family first. After 60 years of marriage, his great love and adoration of his wife Beth was infinite. Doug had a gentle, friendly personality and a warmth that drew people to him. He took great joy in making people smile with his kind, caring words and endless sweet treats.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Whitty, for his many years of compassionate care and friendship. Thank you to Dr. Kim and Dr. Broski, as well as, the outstanding staff of Niagara Dialysis, Care Partners, Paramed and March of Dimes for their dedication.
