Obituary of Marie McColgan
Marie McColgan
At Eventide Nursing Home, on Saturday, December 4th, Marie passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Marie was born on April 30, 1939, in Scotland. She came to St. Catharines in 1972 and lived here for the duration of her life. She worked as a bank teller at The CIBC for many years; after retirement, she dedicated many hours to her volunteer work with the SVDP society. She was also a member of the CWL, and a longtime parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church.
Marie was a very social person who enjoyed spending time with others, especially her dear friends from the bank, and a wide range of friends from “the old country”. She was, first and foremost, a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandma, and over the years enjoyed expressing her love with hand-knitted gifts and delicious home cooking and baking.
Marie is survived by her loving husband, William McColgan, her sons, James (Jennifer Braid) and Kenneth (Krista) McColgan, and daughter, Mary Anne Marshall. She is also survived by her brothers, Gerald (Catherine) Emonds, James (Alice) Emonds, Michael (May) Emonds, and her sister Patricia (George) Coyle. Marie was a proud grandma of four grandsons, Jeff Marshall, Adam Marshall, John Marshall, and Cameron McColgan, and a loving aunt to several nieces and nephews. Anyone wishing to make a donation in her name, please consider the St. Catharines Branch of the SVDP society.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nursing staff at Eventide Home for their kind and sensitive care during Marie’s months of residence there, especially Nurse Erica and Major Renee Clarke.
