Obituary of Gerald John Iftody

IFTODY, Gerald John

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald on Monday, October 11, 2021 at the age of 57. Beloved son of the late Helen (nee Laubach) and the late John Iftody, to whom he showed a steadfast love and devotion that knew no bounds. He is survived by his Uncle Sam (Margaret) Iftody and Aunt Pat (late Robert) Vaillancourt as well as many cousins and extended family. We are all heartbroken that his deteriorating health took him so soon. He is predeceased by his grandparents Victor & Eva Laubach and Steve & Georgina Iftody as well as aunts and uncles, Jean (Vic) DiMaurizio, Victor (Doreen) Laubach, George Iftody, Bill (Shirley) Iftody, Mike (Barbara) Iftody, and Eva Iftody. Gerry enjoyed a close brotherly bond with his cousin Paul (Terry) who will miss him immensely and Godson Ben has lost a devoted Uncle, friend and mentor - a role Gerry embraced, while bonding with him deeply.

Gerry was a long time employee of Ontario Power Generation. He had a love of music and sports. Gerry was an ace fastball pitcher in his day and enjoyed going to sporting events with his friends Ross and Vic.  He was a motorcycle enthusiast and a guitarist, a love he shared with his dear friend John.

Special thanks to the physiotherapists at the Active Recovery Clinic who gave him a better quality of life during his disability. There are so many family and friends that will be forever grateful for the special thoughtful ways that Gerry always connected with each of them. His anecdotes, tips, advice, talks and visits will be sadly missed. A graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery, Fenwick on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at 12 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to SickKids or a charity of your choice.
