Obituary of Wietske (Wilma) deVries
Wietske (Wilma) deVries (Sietsma)
On September 30th, in the year of our Lord, 2021, Wietske deVries was called home to be with our Lord. Wietske, known to most as Wilma, was born in Westergeest, Friesland a province of the Netherlands on December 12, 1930. It was in the small town of Jistrum where she married her loving husband Peter on February 10, 1953. Together, they sailed on their honeymoon to Canada where they emigrated and finally settled in Niagara.
Wilma’s heart of servanthood led her to help many family and friends over the 90 years she lived. She loved being involved in the Ladies Circle of her church, Trinity Christian Reformed Church, of which she was an active founding member. Many will recall the raisin bread they baked for the special events of Beacon Christian School. Wilma was a gifted crafter, avid knitter, seamstress, and loved playing games and working in the greenhouse. She was known for her fast and accurate disbudding. She prided herself on keeping a clean and neat household. She will be remembered for her quick and bright smile.
She is the cherished Mem, Mom and Grandma to all her family. Loving mother of Grace, Debbie (Ray) and William (Janet). Special grandma to Grace’s children and her great-grandchildren Carissa (John) {Anneke, Nadine, Marijetta, and Willemijn}, Shane (Michelle) {Mason, Leah, Allison and Thys}, Justin (Christina) {Lily and Rider}, Debbie and Ray’s children and her great-grandchildren, Nathan (Amanda) {Samuel and Lila}, Andrea (David) {Logan, Micah and Juliet}, William and Janet’s children and her great-grandchildren, Peter (Stephanie) {Darcy, William), Alicia (William) {Madyson}, Sarah (Kurt), and Jonathan.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. On October 16th, Wietske deVries will be laid to rest at a private interment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on that day at 11:30 am at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 278 Parnell Rd, St. Catharines.
Funeral capacity is limited to 120 guests. All guests attending the funeral must wear a mask, and are asked to call or email the funeral home to RSVP, 905-937-4444.
Memorial donations to Beacon Christian School, St. Catharines, Ontario and/or Calvin Christian School, Winnipeg, Manitoba would be appreciated by the family.
