Obituary of Thomas Henry Nevens
Thomas Henry Nevens, passed away on Friday September 3rd, 2021.
Tom was born to Thomas Sr. and Freda Nevens (nee Quigley, later Vickers) on October 30th, 1941 in West Hartlepool, England. Tom and his brother David lived in several places around the North East of England moving with their father's work as a police constable.
Tom began his career in journalism in 1958, reporting the news in and around Newcastle Upon Tyne. In 1963 he moved to Canada. Tom's first stop was Halifax before moving to St. Catharines and joining the St. Catharines Standard where he was a long-time member of the newsroom until his retirement.
In St. Catharines, Tom would marry the love of his life Josephine (Luciani) and be father to two sons, Martin and Lucas.
Tom could often be found holding court at the Kilt and Clover. A lifelong fan of Newcastle United football club, Tom adopted the Montreal Canadiens upon his arrival in Canada. He enjoyed curling and was an avid golfer and a proud member of Rockway Vineyards Golf Course.
His memory will be forever cherished by his surviving family, Jo, Martin and Lucas, his daughter in law Jessica (Braddock), brother David, and his many friends.
We're thankful for the outpouring of support and sharing of so many great memories.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be arranged at a later date.
In lieu of gifts or flowers donations are encouraged to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. mssociety.ca
