Obituary of George Wilson Hamilton

George Wilson Hamilton, age 73 of St. Catharines, Ontario passed peacefully on June 14, 2021 at Linhaven long term care. Coincidentally, his father and father-in-law both died on June 14 in prior years.

George was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and moved to Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) with his family at age 2 where he was educated at Peterhouse Boys School in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). He then graduated from University of Edinburgh with an Honours Law Degree before obtaining his Chartered Accountancy in Glasgow, Scotland. In 1973 he emigrated to Canada where he met his wife Bunty at High Park Ski Club in Toronto. George was devoted to his wife and children Andrew (Vivien) in Claremont, California, Nadine (Eric) in Toronto, Ontario, Dianne (Jason) in Meaford, Ontario. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Sophie, Hugh, Penny, Jocelyn and Sidra. He is also survived by his three siblings Hugh in Aberdeen, Scotland, Lorna (Dallas) in Canberra, Australia and Sarah in Saltcoats, Scotland. He was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Allan Hamilton of Inverness, Scotland.

Always willing to acquire new skills, George enjoyed playing bridge with his Grandma Hamilton and her friends as well as demonstrating his expertise when playing with and against professionals. He was known by his family for his love of fishing, badminton and field hockey. Growing up he enjoyed all sports including rugby and sailing. He is remembered for his gentleness, patience and great sense of humour. Having spent his childhood travelling back and forth from Scotland to Zambia he developed a love for travelling, discovering new places and meeting new people.

A private celebration of life will be held in the fall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dancing With Parkinsons (https://www.dancingwithparkinsons.com/donations) which George loved and participated in daily during the pandemic.
