Obituary of Deborah Ann Mockford
MOCKFORD, Deborah - Peacefully on Friday, June 11, 2021 in her 75th year, Deborah Ann Mockford took her final breath and was reunited with her mother, Ella Campbell and sister, Susan Chyle at the gates of heaven. Deb was many things in this world: a 1968 graduate of St. Michael’s School of Nursing, a registered nurse in the Dialysis Unit at Hotel Dieu Hospital in St. Catharines for more than 30 years, a traveller, an avid reader, a sister, an aunt, neighbour, and friend. However, the roles she cherished most were that of a loving wife, mother and Gramma. Deb leaves behind her devoted and dedicated husband of 50 years, Doug, her loving children Brad (Angela) and Dana (Tony) Sacco and treasured grandchildren, Ronan, Ella, Colin and Rocky. She is also survived by her protective big brother, Ian (Carol) Campbell, her sister and best friend, Shirley Vetro, her brothers and sisters-in-law Don (Heather), Glenn (Barb), Debbie, Ron (Cindy) Mockford. Deb is predeceased by her inlaws, Jack, Doreen, Doug #2 and Eileen. Affectionately remembered by nieces and nephews, Domenic (Mary-Jo), Tony (Laura), Karen (Mark), Chris (Ailyn), Paul, Tim, Greg (Mindy), Kevin and Matt. Great Aunt to Abbey, Katelyn, Zac, AnnaLee, Lochlynn, Mahalko and Ian Juan. Heartfelt thanks to Deb’s long-time friend and sister at heart, Margaret Kellow and to a supportive friend, Barb Vint who has always been there. Thank you to caring friends, Lena, Leslie, Monique and Muriel. Although Deb suffered a variety of ailments and her health declined due to Guillain-Barre Syndrome, she was a fighter, a champion, and a strong woman. With gratitude we thank all her medical professionals who have supported Deb over the past 12 years: Dr. K. Baker and staff at McMaster Neuromuscular Disease Boris Clinic, family doctor Dr. W. Alazrajh and staff especially Lori, Dr. A. Abonowara, Dr. J. Luce and staff at Shaver Rehabilitation Hospital, Dr. M. Jany, Dr. K. Piercey, Dr. D. Reid, Dr. V. Kuritis, Dr. K. Sloan, Dr. N. Huq, Dr. C. Robert, Dr. P. Fritz, and Dr. J. Vlahos. The staff at Shoppers Drug Mart, Grantham Ave. St. Catharines especially Mike, Chris and Keith; Darla, care co-ordinator of LHIN, and the numerous PSWs from ParaMed and Bayshore especially Nicole, Pat, Nancy, Evita, and Kathy who have spent time caring for Deb in her home have been instrumental in her journey. Emergency Room staff, Dr. K Plaza, Nurse-Practitioner, Danielle and the nursing and PSW staff especially Natalie, Jordan, Wendy, Anita and Jessie from the 4th Floor at NHS helped make Deb’s transition to her new life beautiful. Deb has left a mark in everyone’s hearts, her memory will live on and she will always be near. We know in heaven Deb is already planning celebrations and vacations, driving in a convertible, sitting by the ocean, playing Scrabble, and making lists getting prepared for when we meet again. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Friday, June 18th from 4-7p.m. Due to COVID-19 regulations, all guests wishing to attend the visitation must call the funeral home to book an appointment time to attend. (905)-937-4444. All guests must wear a mask. A Private Family Memorial Mass will take place at Church of Mary Star of the Sea. Memorial donations to The Mark Preece Family House at 191 Barton Street East, Hamilton, ON L8L 2W7 would be appreciated by the family. A very special thank you to the staff for their compassion and for providing accommodations every month for the past three years while Deb had ongoing treatment.
