Obituary of Francis Gerard Coholan

Coholan, Francis (Frank), BSc, MD. Peacefully passed away at the St. Catharines General Hospital surrounded by his family, on May, 25 2021, in his 95th year. Beloved husband of Elizabeth (Betty) for 68 years. Cherished father of Ned (Barb), Mary Jane (Bryan), Peggy (Richard), Gerry, Jimmy (Augustine), John (Darlene), Liz, Tommy, and Michael (Katia). Also dear to Frank are his sisters in-law, Vera and Charlotte Coholan. Predeceased by his parents, Genevieve and Patrick and 11 siblings.
Dearly missed by his loving grandchildren, Erin (Blair), Christopher (Lauren), Donny (Krista), Joey (April), Peter, Katie, Danny, Brandon, Kathleen, Francheska, Liam, Elena, Adam and Frank, along with his seven great-grandchildren.
Frank was born in St. John, N.B. He received his BSc from StFX and his Medical Degree from the University of Ottawa in 1953. He hung up his shingle in Family Medicine where he practiced for 41 years. He was a dedicated Physician and loved what he did. Frank brought a balance of compassion and humour to his many patients over the years.
Frank was a man of great faith, who was dedicated a member of St. Julia's church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed his time as a member of both the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club and the St. Catharines Club. Frank's competitive spirit came out when he played a game of cards, golf or Bridge with his friends and family.
Frank's legacy will be carried on through the love of family, his career and most importantly, the deep, lasting love of his dear wife Betty, who he adored. The family would like to express appreciation to the doctors and nurses at the St. Catharines General Hospital and his family Physician, Dr. Peter Hyatt for their care and compassion. Frank will be resting at George Darte Funeral Home. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no visitations, and a small, private family funeral will be held.
