Obituary of Louise Minniti
MINNITI, MARGARET LOUISE (VIOLANTE) B.A., B.Ed., M. Ed.
Remember your compassion and love, O Lord, for they are ages old. Remember no more the sins of my youth, remember me only in the light of your love. (Ps 24:6-7)
The sunrise of a beautiful life commenced upon the horizon of St. Catharines, on March 9th, 1944. The sadness of dusk arrived on May 8th, 2021, when surrounded by family, with dignity and grace, and fortified by the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church, Louise went to be reunited with her husband, Nick (2008). She is predeceased by her parents, Antonio (1977), Margaret (1978), and brother Joseph (1993).
She leaves to mourn her children, Renata (late Dan), Marisa (Phil) Rocco, Monica (Mohamed), and Gemma (Jake) Knuttila. A much loved “Ammie” to Anthony Rocco, her greatest treasure and joy. She will be remembered by her family sweetly in memories, sadly in tears. Sister-in-law to Joe (Pina) Minniti, Frank (Lorraine) Minniti, May (Al) Simpson, and late Antonio (late Carmela) Pisano. Loving Aunt to many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. Louise will also be missed by many life-long family friends and colleagues.
Louise treasured her teaching vocation, spanning over four decades as an elementary school educator with the Niagara Catholic School Board. She will long be remembered for her kind and nurturing manner with students and family alike. She earned her B.A. (’78), Master of Ed. (’90) and B.Ed. (’95). She earned the Phi Delta Kappa Award of Excellence for her Master’s Project (’90) for having made a significant contribution to education.
She was a woman of great faith who led by example and shared her many gifts and talents at home, school, and with her faith community. A life-long member of St. Alfred Parish, Louise was active in many Ministries among them: Lector, Extra Ordinary Minister of the Eucharistic, Ministry to the Homebound, and St. Vincent de Paul Society. Louise served two terms as President of St. Alfred Parish Council of the Catholic Women’s League, served a term as Regional Chair with the St. Catharines Diocese Catholic Women’s League, and then served a term as Spiritual Development Chair also with the Diocesan League.
Her passing will leave an unbearable void in the lives of those she touched. As we grieve and mourn, we will gather strength by celebrating her life. When we feel abandoned by her loss, we will recall fond memories and be there for each other. We are comforted by our faith that she is in a better place. Her steadfast love and loyalty to friends and family will remain with us.
This is a journey, we all must take,
And each must go alone,
It’s all part of the Master’s Plan-
A step on the road to home.
Louise will be resting at George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. Due to current Covid restrictions, a private family visitation will take place. A private Funeral Mass at St. Alfred’s Church will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at 11 am. For those who wish to view a livestream of the funeral, you can locate it on the St. Alfred's Church website by clicking "Live-Stream--Masses"
Due to restricted attendance at the Mass, Louise’s family invites you to join the funeral procession following Mass to accompany Louise to her final resting place at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Once at the cemetery gates you will have the opportunity to wave farewell and receive a Mass card.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Vincent de Paul--St. Alfred's Parish, Hospice Niagara, Walker Cancer Centre, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Special thank you to Dr. Lee, Dr. Dooler, Father Hugh, and the nurses from St. Elizabeth for their care and compassion during this time.
On the day of your birth a bit of sunlight slipped to the earth. Through the years of pleasure and strife, your light and smile have graced our lives, for so much of our joy was born with you.
Lord, we do not question why You took her from us, but thank You for giving her to us to enrich our lives.
