Ken McKay

Obituary of Ken McKay

McKay, Ken “Kenneth” Lloyd

February 6, 1945 – May 3, 2021

It is with heavy hearts we wish to announce the peaceful passing of Ken in his 77th year. Beloved husband of Bernice (nee McLean) of twenty-four years. Devoted father of Dwight (Andrea), Robin (Matt), and Jacques (Jen). Loved Grandfather to Jessica (Kevin), Ashleigh, Dalton, Daniel, Brody, Sierra, Alyssa, Dylan, and Mirabel. Great-Grandfather to Quinn and Dylan. Ken is survived by his sister, Carole (Ernie). Predeceased by his parents Andy and Doris, and his sister Arlene. Ken will be remembered fondly by his nieces and nephews.

Ken worked in accounting (in Ken’s words a “Cost-Budget Analyst”) at TRW, retiring after working for them for well over 30 years. A true sports enthusiast, Ken enjoyed playing a variety of sports including basketball, baseball and bowling. Ken gave back to his community by umpiring, coaching both baseball and bowling. He founded the Tuesday Night Mixed League in Thorold, which followed him to Fairview Lanes. He bowled every Tuesday for five decades, only taking a brief hiatus in the summer months to umpire baseball. The changing of the seasons only brought the changing of the sports.

In keeping with Ken’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to Covid restrictions a private family gathering will take place at a later date. If desired, donations in Ken’s memory can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, or a charity of your choice.
