Obituary of Lily Cote Pinder
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Lily on May 2nd, 2021 in her 95th year. Beloved mother of Alice Thompson, Tom Thompson, and Diana Thompson. Cherished grandmother of Jennifer Gleason (nee Newton), Brian Newton, and Amanda Szabo (nee Thompson). Much loved great-grandmother to Brianne and Dillon Gleason, and Mason and Carter Szabo. She was predeceased by her parents, and her four siblings.
Lily was an entrepreneur, working as a dressmaker and a professional painter. She sold many of her paintings, and would tell people she ‘painted her way across Canada’.
Lily was also gifted in handicrafts. She delighted in making custom quilts for her great-grandchildren, as well as crocheting their christening gowns. She was remarkably self-sufficient, having as much work as she wanted, whenever she wanted. A woman of great faith, Lily was a long-standing member of First Church of Christ Scientist, St. Catharines.
In keeping with Lily’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to current Covid restrictions, a private family gathering will be held a later date. If desired, donations in Lily’s memory can be made to First Church of Christ Scientist.
