Our Dad was the world's first environmentalist... as children we hand-weeded the lawns... used a super-heavy push mower... helped him endlessly tune his car (with me holding the flashlight)... never left lights on after we left a room... ate vegetables that he insisted never be over-cooked... and on and on. He amassed a huge basement collection of bits and pieces of parts from nuts and bolts, to wires, pipes, that would always come in handy one day or another. He had a fondness for his family and kept in touch with his mother and brother and his family in Poland, and regularly sent parcels to help them out when the country was under communist rule. Wherever his spirit is now, I'm sure he will be looking after the environment with his tireless energy and zeal.
