Obituary of Viktor Unruh

On February 18, 2021, Viktor peacefully slipped away from this world into the next. He was predeceased by his parents Henry (1986) and Mary (2016), brothers' Walter (1957) and Henry (2014) and sister Anita (2017).

It was too soon for us to say goodbye, and as a family we are heartbroken, but he went on his own terms as he had wished. We wish to thank nurses and staff at St. Catharines General Hospital for their care of Vic over the years. Special thanks to Dr. Max Wheeler. Vic could never have done this journey without your support and encouragement.

Vic leaves behind his devoted wife of 28 years, Deby, who unwaveringly cared for and supported Vic through his many health challenges. Loving father to Rory (Krista) Unruh and Amy (Justin) Embury. Beloved Papa to Gavin, Levi, Paityn and Liam. Cherished brother of Elvera (Dom) Trimboli and brother-in-law to Pat (Tina) McGrath, Virginia (the late Roger) Martin, Gord, Kenneth, the late Gary, and Dave (Wendy) Longpre and families. Fondly remembered by his aunts and uncles, many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Vic was employed with Herman Schrompf for over 25 years. He was respected for his strong work ethic, his attention to detail and being able to fix or make almost anything. Vic was known as a quiet man, but his flower and bonsai gardens spoke of his love for plants and all nature. He found beauty in the intricate designs of a peony blossom, to the wood grain in a piece of oak, or the surprise of a crystal in a split rock.

A twenty year battle with Parkinson's could not stop Vic from enjoying life. He painted landscapes, baked cinnamon buns, restored antiques and built his own kayak. He also had a thirst for adventure whether it was zip lining, wind surfing or a quiet paddle across the lake.

Vic was a man of faith in God and knowing that, we trust he is now free of suffering and earthly limitations; in a place more lovely than we could ever imagine.

A  private service to celebrate Vic's life will be held at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Parkinson Canada.
