Obituary of Elke Anni Lotte Laumann

 

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elke Anni Lotte Laumann, (Stapelfeldt) on February 9, 2021. Elke passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family in her 82ndyear. She is reunited in heaven with her loving husband of 60 years, Werner (d-January 2020). She is survived by her brother Egon (Puang) Stapelfeldt, and In-laws, Helmut (Laura) Laumann, Edda (d. Karl Heinz) Schoenmann, and Rolf (Alicia) Laumann. She was beloved mother to Monika (John) Semenchuk, Heike (Gino) Mazzarella, Michael (Monica Klein) Laumann & Peter Laumann. She was beloved Omi to Chris, Niko, Jakob, & Mackensie Semenchuk; Annika, Karoline & Michael Mazzarella, & Kayla Laumann. She was also loved by many nieces and nephews in Canada and Germany.

 

Born in Ahrensburg, Germany she emigrated to Canada as a newlywed in 1960. She was an active member of Club Heidelberg for 57 years. She was a competitive athlete who enjoyed curling and playing ping pong and tennis. Elke loved the outdoors, especially the beach, hiking and camping. An excellent baker and cook, she enjoyed her home, especially her flower and vegetable gardens. Elke lived her life caring and thinking about others. Her family meant everything to her and she demonstrated unselfish love and kindness everyday.

 

The family would like to thank the Palliative Care team for their support for her at home. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or to Christ Lutheran Church would be appreciated by the family.

 

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St, St. Catharines. Due to Covid restrictions, there will be no visitation and a private service held at Christ Lutheran Church, 140 Russell Ave; St. Catharines on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 11am.
