Obituary of Hendrika Gardina Hersant
Hendrika Gardina (Langenkamp) Engelen-Hersant 1933 - 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hennie Hersant on February 2, 2021. Hennie has reunited with her family in heaven joining her husband Jacobus Engelen (1966) and her second husband Horst Hersant (1995). She joins her children Paul (1997) Elisabeth (2004) and Ron (2016) along with her parents Hendrik and Antje and her three siblings. Hennie will be greatly missed and is survived by her daughter Jacqueline (Folkert). Her siblings in Holland Annet, Henk (Eva) and Bertus (Inka). She was loved and will be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews. She was much loved Oma to Jake (Laurie) and Jeff, Rusty (Kelly), Jacob, Abram (Kaley), Jacob (Jana) and John. As great Oma to Elizabeth, Zach, Zoey and Max, Frank and Josephine, Hennie enjoyed watching them through the videos and photos we could share. She was also loved and will be sadly missed by her extended family who also called her Oma and tante Hennie. Having touched many lives along the way. Hennie had immigrated to Canada in May of 1960. Her and Jacobus settled in Winnipeg with their children and later moved to St Catharines in Nov 1965. In 1966 Hennie started working at Parkview Dutch Imports and worked there until they closed in the seventies. Following that she worked at other deli's until she semi retired in 1988. In 1988 Hennie and Horst moved to Niagara Falls where she loved her home at the Adeline apartments and where some may remember her as the superintendent for up to 28 years. Hennie had faith in God that always provided her strength to preserver the difficult times. As a member of the Queensway Free Methodist Church, she had participated and enjoyed the group activities and singing in the choir along with the fellowship and many friends she had made there. Over the last three years Hennie has called Heidehof in St Catharines home where she could freely share her beautiful smile and good sense of humour with those around her. She will be sadly missed by the many compassionate and caring people who lovingly gave her care and comfort. Arrangements have been entrusted to GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. Hendrika’s family will have a private graveside service at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens.
