Obituary of Theresa Agnes Armstrong

Armstrong, Theresa Agnes (Nee Bouchard)

Our dear mother who embraced life with a passion passed away peacefully at River Road Retirement Home in Niagara Falls at the age of 88 on January 30, 2021. Devoted wife to the late Earl G. Armstrong for 63 years (2016). Born on June 5, 1932 in Blind River, Ontario. Daughter of the late Irene Rose Bouchard (1977) and Louis Phillip Bouchard (1977) of Gravenhurst. Mother of Grant (Caren), Roger (Laurie) and Michelle (Lance).  Dearly missed by grandchildren Caitlin, Eden (Kenny) Ewert, Allie, Nick, Mac and great grandchildren Frankie and Louie. Loving sister of Jeanet Nye (late Bill), John Bouchard (Nancy) and Helen Hinks (Jack), predeceased by Evelyn Clark (Bill), Marie Keatley (Maurice) and Luke Bouchard.

Her father served in WWI and was a Veteran Guard during WWII stationed in Gravenhurst where the family relocated in 1939.  Theresa married Earl in 1953 and moved to Dixie (Mississauga) and then St. Catharines in 1967. Theresa started her career as a teller at the Toronto Dominion Bank in Gravenhurst in early 1950s and retired 35 years later at the Geneva Street branch in St. Catharines in 1980s.

As a member of the Grantham Curling Club she was thrilled when her team scored an 8 ender in the 1980s.  Later she had the opportunity to serve as President and was also past President and 35 year member of the St. Alfred’s Catholic Women’s League.  Theresa’s other many associations included the St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Catharines Road Runners Club, St. Catharines Art Association, St. Catharines Craft Guild and Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre.  Most recently she enjoyed gossip over coffee after aquafit at the Best Western.

Theresa loved playing scrabble with family and enjoyed euchre with the seniors at St. Alfred’s Church on Mondays. Over the year’s Theresa enjoyed many creative endeavours including flower arranging and painting. It was her love of painting that took Mom to art junkets in France and Italy and several of her beautiful works now adorn the walls of family and friends’ homes.  Many fond memories were made on family trips to Florida, Arizona and Muskoka and semi-annual shopping trips to the USA.  Mom will be remembered for her positive outlook, easy going nature and beautiful smile.

Special thanks to Jan and the staff at River Road Retirement Residence, Dr. Rawoof, Dr. Sofranyos and others involved in her care.

In accordance with Theresa's wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements are entrusted to the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME. A celebration of Theresa’s life will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Rankin Cancer Run of which Mom was a proud supporter for many years.
