Obituary of Martha Barczynski

Martha Barczynski

February 4, 1925 – January 25, 2021

It is with heavy hearts but gratitude for her long life we announce the passing of Martha Barczynski, age 95, peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2021 at Heidehof Senior Residence in St. Catharines. She lived to be 10 days short of her 96th birthday. Martha was born on February 4, 1925 in Friedenshutte in Upper Silesia on the border of what became Germany and Poland. She met dad in Germany after the war and married in November 1949, immigrated to Canada in December 1951 and began a new life raising a family in St. Catharines. Mom was a lifetime parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church where she was active in the Ladies Sodality and the Society of the Rosary. Her faith life was very important to her and sustained her through all life brought her way. Martha was also a longtime Associate Member of the Canadian Polish Society. Family was everything to mom – she joyfully saw her children and grandchildren come into their own to lead fulfilling lives and prayed for us all. Loving mother of Linda (Peter) Hamstra of Kingston ON and Peter (Sharon) Barczynski of St. Catharines. Devoted and dearly Loved Oma of Michael Hamstra, Laura Hamstra (Ryan LaPlante), Bryan Nash and Lawrence Barczynski, and Marc and Onile Le Blanc. She will be remembered by several nieces and nephews in Germany. Mom was predeceased by our dad, Stanley Barczynski (Father’s Day 2004), her parents, Jakob and Marta Boronski and her siblings Konrad, Maria, Herbert and Lydia. Mom lived a long and full life, full of ups and downs as life is apt to be, but she always met adversity with courage and tenacity. Mom, thanks for all you did for us – Until we meet again. Arrangements have been entrusted to GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. The Barczynski family will have a private graveside service for Martha at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held when it is safe to do so. Martha’s family would appreciate donations to a charity of your choice in her memory.
