John Lucy

Obituary of John Edwin Lucy

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John Lucy on January 2, in his 82nd year. He passed away peacefully in hospital with his family by his side. Loving husband to Beatrice for 36 years.  Dearly loved dad to Michelle (Raymond), Chris (Rhonda), and granddaughters Samantha and Kaitlyn.  Also loving step-dad to Cindy, Glenn (Pauline), Heather (Flip), Travis (Nancy), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John also leaves behind many friends and family in England, Canada, and Florida.

Born in London England, John moved to Canada as a young man where he studied auto mechanics. He had a long career as a mechanic for the City of St. Catharines with 35 years of service at the Fire Department. He was solely responsible for the entire fleet of fire trucks including cars, vans, rescue boats, generators for rescue missions, and three sets of Jaws of Life.  He was awarded over 60 certificates and plaques during his career for his service and performance.

John made friends everywhere he went. He loved to chat and joke, and he would always have a funny story to share.  He could often be found socializing with his buddies over a cold beer at the Canadian Legion or the Canadian Corp, and when in Florida, at the Eagles Club.  John was a caring and kind man and well loved by his family and friends. He flew back to England every year, sometimes twice a year to visit his family and help his elderly mother while she was alive.

John loved dogs (Napoleon, Mitzy, Diva and Chilli). He was a gentle soul and dogs gravitated to his kind nature. John had a passion for gardening. Every year he nurtured his cucumber and tomato plants, as well as his flower gardens in St. Catharines and Florida. He enjoyed sun tanning outside every chance he got, target shooting at the gun club, watching movies late into the evening, and a good hockey game.  He enjoyed the World Junior Hockey Tournament every year and his favourite NHL team was the Tampa Bay Lightning.  John spent the last few days of his life watching the World Junior Tournament on TV with Michelle and Chris at his side.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held on Thursday, January 7th at 11am with a livestream link available on John’s tribute page. A second celebration of life party will be held at a later date.  Arrangements entrusted to GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines.
