Obituary of Miroslav Cvetanovic
CVETANOVIC, Miroslav
It’s with great sadness that the family of Miroslav Cvetanovic, better known to his friends as Mike, announce his peaceful passing on December 19, 2020 alongside his family, at the age of 73. Mike is survived by his wife Slavica of 50 wonderful years, his children Violetta “Viki”, Dejan “Danny” (Jessica), and his beloved granddaughter’s Brooklyn, Aleksa and Aria.
Mike was born in the former Yugoslavia and immigrated to Canada in 1970. He studied English and began working at the St. Catharines General Hospital, where he would spend the next 46 years before he retired. After retirement, Mike couldn’t sit back and returned to work as a school bus driver. He proudly took the great kids of Ridley College all over for sporting events. Sports was a big part of Mike’s life, especially his love for the game of soccer. Mike became a referee after arriving in Canada, and worked his way up to becoming a National Referee. He officiated matches all over North America. He was involved in every aspect of the game. He was an executive member of the OSA, an instructor and assessor over 45 years. He received many awards and recognition for his lifetime contributions to the game. If that didn’t keep him busy enough, he spent the rest of his time volunteering at the hospital and the Serbian church. Mike ran a yearly poinsettia fundraiser for the St. Catharines General Hospital. He was recognized as “Mike, the flower guy”. Mike will be sorely missed, his charismatic personality and sense of humour filled our hearts with joy, and if he wasn’t bringing you a coffee, he would certainly bring you a smile.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff at Hotel Due Shaver and the Walker’s Clinic.
