Obituary of Ruth Minke
MINKE, Ruth (nee McMahon)
After a courageous battle with cancer, Ruth passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, December 18, 2020. Ruth now joins her mom and dad, Helen and James McMahon, her son Christopher, siblings Patrick and Christine, as well as her in-laws Wilmer and Shirley Minke, in heaven. Ruth will be deeply missed by her family including her husband Jack with whom she just celebrated 38 years of marriage. Together they had 4 beautiful children. She would have done anything for her kids Jeff, Jenn (Stephen), the late Christopher and Timothy-Connor. She was a dedicated and loving mom, with many hours spent cheering at baseball games, swimming lessons, karate competitions, and more.
Ruth always wanted to bring the people together and was known as the glue of the family. She was the loving sister of Mary, the late Pat (Jill), the late Christine, Nancy (the late Jim), and James. She also was a much-loved sister-in-law to Wendy (Den) and Sande (Rick). She cared deeply about her many nieces and nephews as well as adored her grand nieces and nephews.
Always trying to spread a bit of joy and positivity to everyone around her, Ruth was known for baking one-of-a-kind cakes, making memorial Christmas ornaments, and painting inspirational rocks, that she would gift to friends, family, and even strangers to brighten their day. During her battle with Cancer, Ruth was a strong, fearless, and relentlessly positive patient. She charmed everyone, including her doctors and nurses with her off-beat sense of humor and sharp wit.
Everyone who had the luxury of meeting Ruth would know that she radiated warmth, empathy, and compassion. With her faith as her guide, she ensured she made time to give back to her Church family, and her women’s community. No doubt her positive impact will be felt for years to come.
In keeping with Ruth’s wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements are entrusted to the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. A private funeral mass for Ruth will be celebrated at St. Alfred Roman Catholic Church, St. Catharines on Wednesday, December 23.
