RICHTER, Edward
Passed away peacefully on December 19, 2020 at the age of 95. Beloved husband of Laura for 68 years. Loving father of Eddie and Anna of Jordan, Helen and Joe Martin of St. Catharines, Laura and Dr. William Leskiw of Niagara Falls. Cherished Dziadziu of Stefanie (Jack) and Matthew (Beverley) and cherished Great Dziadziu to Cynthia, Violet, Edward and Frederic. Dear son of the late Katarzyna and Franciszek Richter. Brother of the late Ted and Ginette Richter and uncle of Pierre, all of Newmarket. He will be missed by many extended family members in Canada and in Poland.
Edward came to Canada from Poland in 1948 in search of a better life. He worked as a miner at Lakeshore Mines. As soon as he was financially established, Edward was able to bring his parents and brother to Canada. He married the love of his life, Laura, in Kirkland Lake in 1952 and came to St. Catharines shortly thereafter. Ed and Laura built their home and family among many friends. He worked at General Motors for 30 years and retired in 1983. Ed was an active executive member of the Canadian Polish Society, serving many years in many capacities. His passion for his community was evidenced in years of managing Minor Soccer in St. Catharines. Ed loved playing Cribbage and represented his team at various local tournaments. He loved the casinos too, but his biggest love was family, his wife, children and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all the neighbours on Oriole Drive who supported them over the years. Thanks also to the staff at Tabor Manor, particularly Support Staff on the 4th Floor, as well as Dr. Matt for all your care and compassion. Visitation will be held at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. A Private family Mass will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Assoc., a Local Food Bank or the charity of your choice.
As per the Province of Ontario Covid-19 regulations, visitation is limited to 30% building capacity. All guests attending the visitation must bring a mask and must call (905) 937-4444 to make an appointment.
