MACDONALD, Ian "Nick" - Passed away peacefully at the Niagara Health System (NHS) on Monday, December 14, 2020 at the age of 88. Devoted husband of Alicia, beloved father of Tim ( Lorraine), Neil (Paula) and Casey (Krissie), loving Grandpa of Kyle, Keara, Keanna, Kerissa and Josie. Predeceased by his first wife of 41 years, Bert "Bertha" (January 1994), daughter Cheryl (July 1964) and son Dean (January. 2016). Nick was born and raised in St. Catharines. He started his career at The Lightning Fastner and later at the St Lawrence Seaway for 30 years retiring in 1992. In retirement, Nick was truly blessed to find love and happiness again when he met Alicia and they married in 1996. They were both deeply faithful and active at the Cathedral of St Catherine where Nick served as an usher for about 25 years, then as Eucharistic Minister in later years. He was also a 3rd Degree member of The Knights of Columbus Branch 1394. Nick and Alicia were partners and enjoyed many trips here and abroad and especially loved their vacations to Myrtle Beach. Nick was a member of the Free Wheelers Bicycle Club and 5 pin bowled in the winter. He played golf and lawn bowled at Glenridge Lawn Bowling Club in the summers. They also loved bus tours to the theatre, sporting events and concerts with friends. Alicia became his constant companion and lovingly cared for him in his final years. Nick will be remembered for his quick wit, love of sports especially the Irish and the Habs, music, trivia and devotion to his family and friends. He will be missed by nieces and nephews, good friends Dino, Gerry and Lena and the residents of Jubilee Place. The family appreciate the excellent care he received from the staff and caregivers who treated Nick with patience, kindness and compassion at Henley House. Special thanks to Father Andy Goodwin for his blessings and prayers. Due to COVID- 19 restrictions, the family will not be having a visitation but a Private Family Mass will take place with burial to follow. A Celebration of Nick's Life will take place at a later date when friends and family can attend and remember him. Memorial donations to The Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria would be appreciated by the family. |
