Ernie was my great uncle, brother in law to my nana Aden Ferris. I have many fond memories of Uncle Ernie and Aunt Norma but what I remember the most is their kindness and humor. Ernie never tired of trying to surprise us kids with a handshake where you’d find several missing fingers. Made him laugh every time. I’ll miss his gentle spirit and sense of humor. Rest now, until we can shake hands again.

Ernie and Norma were dear friends of my parents Basil & Bernice. Ernie and my Dad spent many years coaching together, through the MAA, and had a tremendous positive impact on the youth in the Merritton Community. It was amazing to see Ernie still involved, years later, through the Army Cadets 68 Squadron when my son was a cadet there. In fact, my son went on to enroll in the military, is currently in 3rd year at RMC, and looked forward to coming home and connecting with Ernie at Remembrance Day services. I have included a photo of them from a couple of years ago. It is a tribute to Ernie and his dedication to community service throughout his lifetime, that so many people have gone on to serve in the Military or become strong members in their communities. We will remember him.

I am almost certain I had the pleasure of giving Ernie a couple of driving lessons a few years ago. I'd meet him at his place on Queenston St., unhook his oxygen and put it in the back seat with his walker, then hook him up again. I've had several students in their nineties, but never one who bought in so well to using his vision in driving (scanning intersections, checking behind with mirrors, checking blindspots, full stops, ......). He truly was an amazing man who touched me with just 2 meetings. And he said his examiner said he was the best senior driver she had seen!
I'm sorry he is gone, and I can see - both in my experience and the testimonials of others - he had great influence. I know he is in a better place, and will be bringing joy there!

We at Meals on Wheels are so saddened to hear or Ernie's passing. He was a joy to talk to each week and every volunteer always enjoyed their deliveries to him. Sometimes he would be out with his buddies for breakfast and miss his delivery. Then he would come to the office to pick it up. We always had a good laugh and kindly chastised him for galavanting when he should be home waiting for the volunteers. He was always kind and happy. His smile could brighten any day.
We will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Ernie Adams was the kindest and sweetest man and always had a smile for you. I will treasure all of our little chats when we would run into each other at Merritton events or just in passing on the street. Rest in Peace Mr. Adams! Kim Nicholson (Leclair).
