Having been a Bay Street analyst for many years, I had the opportunity of following Fleet Industries and Magellan for several decades and though numerous management teams. It was a bumpy ride to say the least; that is until Jim took the reins. I followed Jim turn a hodgepodge of relatively small and unprofitable operations into a multinational, highly profitable corporation. And he did all this while remaining humble and always approachable. I remember him once saying that every part that left his operation had to be totally on spec and profitable. Corporate Canada needs more like him.
Jim loved golf and played a good game but more importantly, he was fun to be with on the course. I had the good fortune to play a number of rounds with him and his good friend Bruce Gowan in Muskoka. Jim always liked to have a few pennies on the game and he got a wonderful twinkle in his eye when he managed to take those pennies from me or Bruce.
Gloria, the world has lost a real gem. I was lucky to have been a part of his life.

Jim Butyniec earned respect from all who knew him. Jim was a great leader filled with passion. He understood human nature, he was demanding, and yes, forgiving too. He saw big things and he helped you realize how you could make those big things happen. Jim was like a father to his Magellan family, fighting to protect its continued sustainability, and offering guidance, support, and encouragement to its members. Years ago, I remember Jim’s toast at one of his retirement dinners, “To women”. Jim was a gentleman, a progressive man who could see the potential in all, a man to be remembered with admiration. Our deepest condolences to Gloria, Brandon and Vanessa, and family.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Butyniec family. It was a joy to work in the presence of Jim. I had the pleasure of working with and for Jim as the General Manager of Magellan Mississauga. I will never forget the many MOS discussions we had over the years I worked with him. He was very supportive and always pushed me to be successful in my role as General Manager.
Wishing you as much peace as possible during this difficult time.
Tom Logan.

I am sure that many people will identify with what I have written. My brother cared for people and helped anyone that would accept help.
A Letter to Jim:
When we were young, you were a wonderful brother and as we grew older you continued to be a wonderful brother! You were always there if I needed you: from helping me with the dreaded math problems in Elementary School up to helping me to make and solidify life choices in regards to careers. You pumped up my self-esteem, encouraged me to believe in myself, to not worry so much about what others thought and to just go ahead and pursue my goals. I appreciated your patience, kindness and occasional sternness! You made time for me even if I accidentally called you during an important meeting... you paused right then and there and spoke to me.
Jim, I know that you are way way upstairs and listening to all of us. I am grateful to have so many special memories. I will always remember and treasure how much you cared about me and included me in your very busy life when possible. I wish I would have told you more often how happy I was to see you. I am broken hearted that you are gone, but I'm happy that you are now free from pain.
Rest peacefully my dear brother.
Love always and forever Your 'little' sister, Jeannie

It was my privilege to have worked with Jim for many years. He was a determined leader with a keen focus on continuously improving manufacturing processes. His life experiences enabled him to relate to the challenges of the worker on the shop floor as well as the expectations of bankers and lawyers. Jim was fiercely loyal to the members of his team and his support enabled us to be successful in our roles. He will be missed.
My sincere condolences to Gloria and the rest of the family.

My condolences to my Aunt Gloria, Cousin Brandon, and to the rest of Jim’s family! My Uncle Jim will be very much missed by my dad, mom, brother and I! I remember this wonderful guy not only when I was little and growing up, but also later in my life. Jim sure was a wonderful person who seemed happy, smiling, very intelligent, kindhearted, sweet, caring, funny and had a great sense of humor. I am remembering Uncle Jim by his smile and us laughing! My mom, dad, and I being out and enjoying ourselves together! I remember Uncle Jim saying good things to me and wanting the best for me! He was a great father, husband, uncle and more! He loved life, people, friends, family and his work. He was such an awesome person! Uncle Jim will always be remembered and never be forgotten! ❤️
Love always, ❤️
