My deepest sympathies to Monique and family in the loss of a loving husband, father and grandfather. I had the pleasure of being a colleague of Brian's at Lakeshore Catholic High School. We both found ourselves sitting at the computers in the staff room on a spare one day when Brian asked me to help him learn how to input his marks, a task that had previously been done by the office staff. We both had a few challenges along the way, but we finally got it all accomplished. Shortly thereafter, I found a small jar of chutney in my staff mailbox with a "thank you" note from Brian expressing his gratitude for my assistance. He was a quiet individual, but had a steadfast influence on his students, especially those who struggled along their way.
May you and your family, Monique be comforted by all the happy memories you have!

Monique, Victor and Nathalie:
We were so sorry to hear the news last week that Brian had passed away so suddenly. Over many years our two families have grown and interacted closely with one another. Our kids went to the same school, played sports together and had play days together. We attended similar functions, coached many teams together and went to the same church for a period. Brian and I even had a deep love for the subject of Geography...he being a teacher of the subject and I a Regional Land Use Planner. So this news of Brian hit us particularly hard.
I read with interest the Standard article this past week about Brian’s long-standing involvement in youth basketball. What an important and impressive legacy to leave us with. Victor carries on this work and passion at the elite levels and I know his parent are so proud.
But my involvement with Brian focused primarily on baseball and hockey where we combined our skill sets to guide several teams over time. In CYO Hockey at St. Mary’s Parish where our two sons played together for many years, Brian was the consummate coach who assessed and strategized on the game so that all of the players could be the very best they could be both on and off the ice. Although competition was important to Brian, fair play, respect, fun and character building were important attributes he focused on
as well. You can see the fruits of this labour when you meet former players who today who are mature, caring, model members of our community.
I will share just one other story about Brian that brings this all home. Back in our 1994-95 we had what we liked to call a “Dream Team” of both girls and boys that could be competitive with any other in our league. We had such a fun and satisfying season. Brian insisted that as coaches we should each prepare an end of season player certificate that summarized the individual growth and development of our players over the course of the year. We never did that before but it sounded like a fine idea. At our yearend tournament in New Hamburg each coach readout and presented a player certificate after dinner. Brian wrote one for my son Luc (I am looking at it on the wall right now) and was beaming with pride. I am sure every parent and player in the room that night felt the same way I did. What a great thing to do.
So there you have it. Brian was a kind, smart, sensitive, deeply caring, fun-loving, fiercely competitive, respectful individual who brought us all joy in a world that so badly needs this. We will miss you Mr. Finora.
Love and prayers...
Sharon, Ken Forgeron and Family

Brian was a beloved colleague at Lakeshore Catholic High School. He was kind and giving and lived his faith by his actions and words. I fondly recall Brian randomly bringing in snacks to the English department at various times, even though he wasn’t a member of the English department. He was a gentleman who gave himself and his time to others. A dedicated coach and an individual who put the needs of others before himself.
Brian has an uncanny way of paying people compliments at the absolute perfect time they needed one. It was my honour to work with and spend time with Brian and I find myself moved that donations are asked to be made to Lakeshore Catholic High School for scholarships for students.
You have left us too soon Brian. May you Rest In Peace and God Bless your Family.
With sympathy
Glenn Gifford

I was saddened to hear of Brian’s loss. Brian was a friend and colleague from our Lakeshore Catholic days together. He was an outstanding coach, teacher and mentor. He embodied the Lakeshore Catholic “Can do” spirit. Brian was not only an outstanding basketball coach, but a great supporter of all the programs in the school. He was like an honorary football coach for the Gator football program, a great source of inspiration for the coaching staff and an absolute pleasure to be around. We loved having him on our sideline, what a team builder! A true gentleman. I will miss you, Brian. You left us far too soon. Rest In Peace and May God bless your family.
My sincere condolences.

I taught Geography at Lakeshore Catholic High School with Brian for many years. I found Brian to be a teacher who was empathetic and understanding of all his students but particularly for the special needs students and students in applied level programming. He was a passionate teacher but more importantly a model Catholic school educator who lived out his faith and Christian values. He will be sadly missed. Remember all those special memories with Brian and keep them close to your hearts.
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.

Brian came to teach Gr. 7-8 at St. Joseph’s School in Welland in the late 1970’s, where I was teaching Gr. 1, and my three children were all students there. Of course, Brian immediately began coaching our teams, and every child, no matter how talented, made the team. That was Brian’s style. He challenged and encouraged his teams to be the best they could be.
Our families became close friends, and as he and Monique welcomed Victor and Nathalie, my children often became their babysitters. We even shared a summer vacation together on a (smallish) houseboat on the Trent-Severn waterway. You can imagine the chaos...4 adults, 3 teenagers, and two toddlers attached to the siderails by harnesses. Those were wonderful days! I cherish the friendships, and send my heartfelt sympathy to you, Monique, and to Victor and Nathalie, their spouses, and to your treasured Grandchildren. XO

Mr. Finora was a true mentor to me as a new teacher. We first met in late 1998 when I was assigned to him in university as a student teacher. From day one he was kind, caring and had a wealth of knowledge. We shared a passion for Canadian and world geography. I cannot thank him enough for everything he taught me over the years. He is one of the reasons I became a teacher that was compassionate and sought the needs of my students beyond just the curriculum. Not only were we colleagues, but he became my friend. The Finora’s welcomed me into there home and I also had the privilege of meeting his family. Years later his amazing daughter Natalie became my oldest sons teacher and I hope that she has the opportunity to teach my twins. Mr. Finora I will never forget you and you will truly be missed. God has welcomed another angel. Our loss is His gain. May you Rest In Peace my friend.
