To all of Martin's Family~ As a former colleague of Marty's for many years at A.N. Myer, I was very sad to learn of his death. I taught English & Marty was a kind & patient Math teacher to both of my daughters who admired & respected him greatly. He was even kind enough to tutor one of them at home after school to help her when she hit a few bumps in the road & he would have been happy to know how much his help supported her success in post-secondary Mathematics. I enjoyed being on staff with Marty - he was always so involved in student life, as with his coaching, and I always appreciated his quiet, confident manner & wry sense of humour. It is never easy for a family to say goodbye to a beloved husband & father as we sadly know. My daughters Mary Anne and Natalie join me in extending most sincere sympathy from our family to yours. Christ Church McNab is a beautiful spot and the resting place of a dear friend - next time I visit her grave, I will look for Martin's so I can say a quiet prayer that he will "Rest in Peace", May abundant memories of happy times bring you comfort, strength & peace. Our family was very sad to hear of Martin's passing. I spent many years coaching with the Jets soccer teams and always looked forward to chatting with Martin. Whether it was about the upcoming season or a moment that occurred in a recent game, I always enjoyed hearing Martin's thoughts. He was a calming presence and a true gentleman and he will be missed by many. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.

I began my teaching career in 1990 at A.N. Myer and Marty was an institution there- part of a clan of veteran teachers that kept the school and sports fields humming day in day out. Marty was a determined and dedicated teacher/coach that helped set the bar for all the good things a great teacher should be doing. I learned a lot from Marty and his colleagues both by his words and actions. The lessons I learned help build a foundation for my own teaching career that instilled in me a commitment to student centered education and strong extra curricular involvement because learning doesn't end when the final bell of the school day rings. A winner on and off the field, Marty will be missed and surely somewhere deep inside Marty knew he had made a difference in this world and touched many lives.

Very sorry for your loss. Mr. Bissell taught me math somewhere around 1999 or 2000. I've always been stronger in the arts than math/science, but he was a kind, patient, and generally good teacher who was able to make things clear.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Martin Bissell. My deepest and sincerest condolences to his immediate and extended family. May he rest in peace knowing that he touched many and was respected and loved by all.
Mr. Bissell and I crossed paths on the soccer pitch at A.N Myer. I was fortunate enough to play for him for several years. What I most admired about him was that he was always so calm, cool and collected under what I thought were the most dramatic and stressful times on the pitch. He always treated his players with the utmost of respect, fairness and calm, which I believe was the root of his/our success on the pitch. Players were able to reach their potential by taking risks, knowing that Mr. Bissell had nothing but encouraging and kind words for them no matter the circumstances. I always felt the need to work beyond my potential to show gratitude for the kindness and guidance Mr. Bissell extended to me. I matured as a soccer player and human being during those few years with Mr. Bissell.
I remember our glorious 80’s drive to A.N. Myer’s first Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Soccer championship. We competing with many of the elite Toronto Schools and with the very capable and calm guidance of Mr. Bissell, under continuous pressure and drama, managed to somehow keep moving forward in the tournament and to a memorable one goal final win which solidified the Ontario championship for A.N. Myer. I have nothing but fond memories of those times.
25 years later, I caught up with Mr. Bissell on a pitch in St. Catharines where he was watching a game between my daughter’s team and a St. Catharines Jets team. He remembered me! We reminisced about bygone days and relived some of our fond memories. I was so happy to meet up with him after such a long time and get the chance to let him know that I appreciated the calm encouragement and guidance he provided me during those years at A.N Myer. I left that night feeling good, knowing that I finally got the chance to thank him for the positive impact he had on many aspects of my life.
Thank you Mr. Bissell! May you rest in peace knowing that you touched so many.
Lou Stranges.

Deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Martin. Met him many years ago on a trip to Toronto for a soccer tournament, and this is when Martin introduced me to Swiss Chalet, as I was a new immigrant from the UK. Martin was a straight shooter, a team leader, well loved and respected by the players of Legion 51. We send our Condolences to you Cory and your family. Ged and Ange Leahy.
