Sylvan Hinds 70, of Welland Ontario, passed away, Wednesday May 20, 2020, peacefully at his home.


Sylvan was born December 5th,1949 in Baccas Wood, Islington St. Mary, Jamaica to Curtis Hinds and Lileath Hinds. While living in Jamaica Sylvan was a mason and a local musician. He sang with the group Jug Jonny and the Italites and had several hit songs in the 70’s. Sylvan migrated to Ontario Canada in 1978. Sylvan worked and lived in Canada for 40 years before retiring. After retiring he lived between Jamaica and Canada for 3 years. He spent most of his days playing his guitar, keyboard, drums or listening to music.


Sylvan is survived by his children Dumaine Hinds and Sylvia Hinds, three grandsons, Jason, Najja and Noah, his siblings Patricia Hinds, Christine Hinds and Carlton Hinds along with several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Lileath  Hinds and brothers Randol and Cardinal Hinds.


Arrangements are entrusted to the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines Ontario. A private family service will take place on October 24, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. A Memorial for family and friends to celebrate Sylvan’s life will take place at a later date. Guests are welcome to view a live streaming of Sylvan funeral service with the link  A second funeral service and burial will also take place in Baccas wood, Islington St. Mary, Jamaica at a later date.

As per the Province of Ontario Covid-19 regulations - Funeral attendance is limited to 65 attendees. Attendance will be monitored to maintain capacity and physical distancing for the health and safety of our staff and guests. All guests attending the visitation or funeral MUST wear a mask.
