Lynn and I were saddened by the news of Rose’s (Chocha Kit’s) passing.
My very first memories of both uncle John and Aunt Rose were in Flesherton. I must have been 6 or 7.
I vividly remember the farm house and the creek filled with frogs. I also remember my Dad, Bob Mykytiuk, Uncle John Kit, Dubas, and others singing Ukrainian folk songs. Uncle John had one of the first reel to reel tape recorders and he recorded the entire impromptu concert.
Over the years John, Rose and the kids would visit my Mom and Dad in Toronto. Their visits always included St. Kits fruits of the season.
Our parents were close friends and all will be missed.

I have many very good memories of Aunt Rose. She and my mother, her cousin Mary Boyko Kocur, were good friends who supported each other through the many years of their friendship after Rose moved to Ontario from Manitoba.
I was a flower girl at Rose and John's wedding in Toronto in 1954.
Surprisingly, my first vivid memory of Rose is from the spring of 1955. I know the exact time because Rose was expecting John, her first child, born on June 20, 1955. When we picked her up at the bus stop on Kingston Rd. in Scarborough, my mother to explained to me why Rose had such a big tummy. I was 10.
In the summer of 1957, my Mom, brothers and I spent a week with Rose in Flesherton. It seemed to me that Rose's twin daughters, Mary and Marlene (b. Sept. '56) and my brother Mike (b. Nov. '56 ) spent the week sitting in high chairs being fed by their Moms. I was allowed to buy Trixie Belden books at the local store and escape to read in a corner avoiding the fuss of four noisy babies, John being a toddler at the time.
Later memories are of Aunt Rose in a crowd of children, in the kitchen making perogie, hosting weddings (the Kits had the best weddings!!!), serving her guests on tables spread out in the backyard at 11 Macbeth, welcoming me and my family with open arms whenever we appeared. She was a warm and generous hostess, a great cook, the centre of her family and a valued member of her community.
We've missed you these last years, Aunt Rose, and are grateful that you now rest in peace.
