Sincere condolences to all of Bill's family.
You did great service to all in union over many years, Bill.
Without your tireless efforts we would all be less secure and safe in our environment.
If they don't have Guinness there---form a committee and build a distillery.
Miss your enthusiasm.

So sad to hear of Billy's passing, the McCluckie family send our deepest condolences to the entire Gilroy family.. I remember my first job outside of Hydro after just completing my apprenticeship,,,..,at the GM engine plant in St. Catharines working with Billy! That was way back in 1986. We were the last 2 travellers to be let go. Billy was also a friend of my father, Davie McCluckie, they worked together and even travelled to Ireland on one occasion. I'm sure Davie will have a pint of Guinness waiting for Billy up there in Heaven!

Not sure what I can say about Billy that hasn't already been expressed by so many others. He was a good friend and mentor to me. He always had time to talk, especially over a pint of Guinness :) My prayers and condolences go out to the Gilroy family.

It was a very sad day for all the Gilroy family, when their beloved husband and father, William (Billy) passed away to go home to God. I only knew him through his wonderful wife, Lena, and, on those few occasions of being in his company I found that he was the sweetest, kindest man with a lovely sense of humour, which the Irish are blessed with. The World has lost a beautiful soul and he will be sorely missed. My deepest condolences to his immediate family in Canada, and also to his relatives and friends in Ireland.
Sincerely,
Isabell McGarry & Alex Taylor

Our deepest condolences to the Gilroy family. Billy was one of a kind. He was my first journeyman when I started my apprenticeship. (A position I received because of his help) Never shy to answer questions or help young workers develop their craft. I’ll never forget everything Billy has done for me.

Excerpt "The History of the Gaelic Athletic Association in Canada" My regards to the Gilroy Family. May Billy rest in peace.
TORONTO GAELS
" Former Cavan star and long standing Garryowen member, Tommy White (R.I.P.) was instrumental in forming a new team called “Erin Nua,” The club soon transformed into a new club in 1987, the Toronto Gaels. Four long-standing Toronto GAA members—Joe Matthews (Antrim), +Billy Gilroy (Antrim)+, Paddy Callan (Dundalk) and former Antrim football star Billy Millar—were among the founding members.
In their first year, the Gaels were finalists in the Powerscreen 7’s, League Winners and Championship finalists. A team photo that year included President Joe Matthews, Treasurer G. Houston, Alan Sibbald, Liam Og McKee, John Neeson, Mickey McConnell, Secretary Hugo Straney, J. Buckley, +Manager Billy Gilroy+, Gerry Mullane, Brendan Rossiter, Tommy White, Alan Henderson, Tom Holten, Colbert Clifford, Damien McCullough, Terry Devlin, Captain Billy Millar, Peter White, Niall O’Bracken, Mickey Doherty and Paddy Callan.
The Toronto Gaels success continued, winning the football league in 1988 and 1989. The year 1990 proved to be a prestigious one for the Gaels; they won the Men’s Senior Football Championship for the first time.
The early years featured a number of very talented players: the Fitzsimonds brothers, Gerry Straney, Niall Cotter, Mark O’Brien, Peter White, David Rossiter and Captain Gerry Mullane, who played senior football for Limerick upon relocating to Ireland in 1991. The Gaels also had a strong hurling team in those days; many players played both codes on the same day for the club. One of the most prominent hurlers at that time was John O’Neill (R.I.P.), who unfortunately passed away suddenly before the age of 40.
The club was well supported in those days by a number of characters who would go on to contribute greatly to the club’s success off the field and for the future. Brendan Rossiter, Alan Henderson in addition to the aforementioned White, +Gilroy+, Millar, Matthews and Callan would shape this club for longevity."

Christine (or Angela (at times) to Billy) and I send our deepest condolences to the Gilroy family. We were honoured and fortunate to have known Bill and spent time in his wise, mirthful orbit. His work, dedication and passion has blazed, created and powered paths, opportunities and possibilities that have given me, and so many others, so very much. In addition to many other things I learned from Billy, I will always have a $20 in my wallet, ‘cause this one’s on me sir.

I'm very sad to hear of Bill's passing... Bill was one of the fairest, dedicated, and well-thought people I have ever met. It was always a pleasure to run into Bill and talk about work and life and the relationship between the two. Without his leadership, I know I would not have had the chances I got in life, and the help to have a good enough job to support things my family wanted. Bill's vision and insight helped to lead the old IBEW and CUSW, and his legacy will always remain.
