Obituary of Allegra Degano
Allegra Luciana Degano (nee Zuliani)
After a very brief illness Allegra quietly and peacefully passed on December 11, 2019, surrounded by her family. Allegra was born in Bressa di Campoformido, Udine, Friuli-Venezia-Giulia Italy on October 10, 1927 in a family of 8 brothers and sisters. Predeceased by her husband Albano (2010) of 58 years. Allegra is survived by her sons Doriano (Suzanne Caron), Paul (Tracey Sharman), her daughter Joanne (Robert Caruso) and sister-in-law Rita Degano. Allegra was blessed with six grandchildren, Celina (Mike Schonberger), Genna (Nathan McKillop), Olivia and Quentin Degano, Anthony and Elio Caruso. Allegra was also special Bis-Nonna / Great-Grandmother to three beautiful greatgrandchildren, Ella and Leo Schonberger and Nolan McKillop. Allegra will be greatly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in Canada, Italy, England, and Switzerland and her fellow Club Roma Bingo friends. Allegra “Loved” her Family and her Friulano Heritage. Allegra wanted to gratify all of us by her outstanding cooking. Thank you Mamma, Nonna, Bis-Nonna for your Love and making sure we were all well fed. Allegra was dedicated to her Catholic faith lifelong affiliate of San Antonio di Padua and Santuario della Beata Vergine di Castelmonte Udine and a loyal parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church. Allegra arrived in Welland via Pier 21 Halifax NS in October 1952 joining Albano in starting a new life in a new world. As a professional seamstress Allegra applied her trade at Mitchell’s Ladies Wear in Welland and numerous loyal clients. Allegra and Albano lived in Welland until 1999, and relocating to St. Catharines to be closer to their family. Allegra was a founding member of the Fogolar Furlan Niagara, Member of Club Roma Seniors and extremely proud of her new family at Villa Roma Residence. In lieu of flowers Allegra's family would appreciate donations made to the Walker Cancer Centre.
Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Sunday, December 15 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Vigil prayers will be held in the funeral home on Sunday at 3:45 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 169 St. Paul Crescent, St. Catharines on Monday, December 16 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Hwy 20, Fonthill.
