Obituary of Aileen Audrey Priddy

Priddy, Aileen Audrey (nee Dion)

On June 21, 2019, Aileen passed away peacefully at Lakeside Long Term Care, Toronto at the age of 98.

Aileen is survived by her loving sons, Robert (Penny) of Surrey BC, and Terry (Janice) of Toronto; her brother Bill (Anita) and cousin Larry O’Mara (Jean).  She will be missed by her grandchildren Sean Priddy and Bevin Chilton (Paul), and her great-grandchildren Liam Priddy, and Olivia and Samuel Chilton, and several nieces and nephews whose hearts she touched.

Aileen was predeceased by her adoring husband, Warren; her parents, Josephine and John Dion; her sisters Edna Linton and Janet Griffiths; her brothers Wilfred, Eugene and Connie.

She was born in 1920 in Niagara Falls, N.Y.  When she was five, her family moved to St. Catharines, On.  As a young woman, she had a beautiful voice and sang with Wilf Miller and His Knights of Rhythm, a 1930’s local band.  In 1940 she married the love of her life, Warren, a well-known local long-distance swimmer.  Much to their joy they had two sons - Robert in 1941 and Terry in 1947.

During the Second World War, while Warren served in the army, Aileen worked at Guaranty Silk Dyeing and Finishing Company.  In the 60’s and 70’s she was the buyer in the millinery department for The Right House Department Store.  Aileen was a loving and devoted wife and mother and during her long life had many dear friends.  Fond memories include her delicious baking, exemplified by her famous cinnamon buns, a tasteful fashion sense and a diverse talent in arts and crafts.

In keeping with Aileen’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A reception will be held in the Kristen French Fellowship Hall at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Tuesday, September 24 from 12 to 2 pm.  Interment to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Lakeside Long Term Care, Toronto, for their exceptional love, care and support of Aileen during the final years of her journey.

May her heart be at peace.
