Obituary of Joan Schafer
SCHAFER, Joan
On April 9, 2019, in her 86th year, Joan’s life journey peacefully came to an end, surrounded by her loving family. She was devoted to her adored husband Bill of 67 years, her loving children Debra (Gary), Steven (Marsha), and Valerie, her cherished grandchildren Heather, Justin (Jennifer), Tara, and Julie (Trevor), and sweet great-grandchildren Isaac, Caleb, and Ethan. Survived by her twin sister Jean and niece Marilyn, who were near and dear to her heart. Predeceased by her parents, Henry and Emma Schnarr and 10 other siblings. Her love will continue in the hearts of all the lives she touched. Joan truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. She volunteered her time and was always helping others in any way she could. Joan had the innate ability to inspire others to do their best. She always said, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. A Celebration of Joan’s life will take place in the funeral home ceremony room at 12 p.m., followed by a luncheon for family and friends. A private family burial will take place in Waterloo at a later date. Donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.
