To all the Cripps family....... We have such good memories of fifty years of friendship with Merv and Jacquie, David and Mark, and their families. It’s the wonderful memories and the thoughts of get togethers, and shared activities that keep Merv and Jacquie alive in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with you today at this sad time. May the memories of love and happy times give you strength.

Shocked because I heard from him just last week. My condolences to his family.
Merv and I went way back. I worked with him at The Standard from 1954-56 and 1970-82. He was always friendly, helpful and kind. More recently I've enjoyed corresponding with him via email. I'll miss his sense of humour and love of fonts.

I first met Merv on Thursday, March 5, 1964. That was my first day working at The Standard and Merv saw me looking bewildered and somewhat like a deer in the headlights as I walked into the Composing Room. Within a few seconds I saw this (then) scrawny guy come walk towards me with his right hand out, a smile on his face and said "Hello and welcome to the Composing Room, I'm Merv ... you must be the new apprentice?" I reciprocated, said yes and thus began my 55-year friendship with Merv. I saw and spoke with Merv every day from then on until he retired and continued to be in contact with him on a daily basis through Emails. He supplied me (and many others) with numerous and a real variety of Emails. I just this minute noticed his obituary in the paper today (March 25) and am so saddened to lose one of the really "nice" guys. He went out of his way more times than anyone could ever imagine and was always one of the first people in line paying his respects to a friend and/or fellow co-worker. I'm now in an electronic line of respect and miss you dearly. Thanks for all you taught me and my friend, you taught me plenty. I have to concur with Booty that you were the smartest person I also ever knew. Rest In Peace.

So sorry to learn of Merv’s passing. He was one of my dad, Booty’s, best friends. Merv came to the hospital and spent hours with my dad in his final days. My dad often said of all the people he worked with at the Standard, including editorial and management Merv was the smartest person of them all. I knew him to be a man with a big heart and a great sense of humour. I will miss his e-mail messages. Sincere condolences to his loved ones.
