Obituary of Josephine Ethel Scotney
Scotney, Josephine Ethel (nee Peake)
November 6, 1931-November 28, 2018. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Josephine (Joey) Ethel Scotney at the age of 87. Beloved wife of the late Captain Francis Raymond Scotney (1987) and predeceased by her parents Viola Alice Peake (1999) and Thomas Peake (1991) of Collingwood, Ontario. Cherished mother of Cheryl, Jocelyn Loyek (Stan) of Rimbey, Alberta, Todd (Theresa) and Paula (Brad). Aunt Joey to Erik, Bruce, Jamie, Fiona, Sharon and Linda. Josephine will be fondly remembered by many brothers/sisters in law. Josephine was born in Owen Sound, Ontario. She attended high school in Collingwood, and worked at Smart's canning factory. As a young girl, she had a love for the Craigleith area of Georgian Bay and Wasaga Beach. She married her husband Ray in 1951 in Collingwood and began raising a family of four and later moved to South Drive in St. Catharines in1967 where she resided for the next 51 years. She was an avid reader of newspapers, loved history and as the wife of a sailor, she had a vast knowledge of ships of the Great Lakes and Welland Canal. She enjoyed many trips aboard ships in her lifetime including her honeymoon which she spent aboard the Frank Wilkinson, ship-keeping for the winter of 1951. A large part of her heart always remained in the Blue Mountains of Collingwood. She returned there many times over the years to spend time with her parents. Most of all, she was a wonderful mother. She met all the challenges in her life with strength and courage. Special thanks to our sister and angel Cheryl whose nursing care and love allowed our mom to remain in the comfort of her home the past six years. Many thanks to neighbours Bernice and Barb for their friendship and gifts of baking, books and flowers to brighten her room. Our world will not be the same without you. We will carry you in our hearts wherever we go. Rest well. Josephine’s family will receive guests on Sunday December 2nd from 2-4pm & 7-9pm. Josephine’s service will be held on Monday December 3rd at 11am at George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St., St Catharines. If so desired, donations to Community Care or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
