Obituary of Sydney Rye
RYE, Sydney William
August 12, 1932 – November 4, 2018
Passed away peacefully at his home. Survived by his loving wife of 64 years Emma, Children Susan (Randy) Norton, Sharon Wintermute, Stephanie (Grant) Poirier, Douglas (Penny) Rye and daughter-in-law Marian Rye. Loving grandfather to Jason, Amanda (Justin), Sarah, Brian (Stephanie), Adam (Ashley), Melissa (Mike), Meaghan, Matt, Chris, Emily, Laura and Steven. A special great grandfather to Kayla, Avery, Erika, Ben, Isla, Everley, Porter and Owen. Will be missed by his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his son David (2000) and his brother Ernest (2014). A tool and die sinker at General Motors for 38 years leaving at 55 to enjoy retirement. Moving up north to Emsdale, he and Emma lived their dream of lakefront ownership. An avid golfer and fisherman, he was able to pursue his hobbies in the beautiful north. A devoted Lions Club member in both Merriton and Emsdale he held many positions including serving as President of both clubs. He was Region 17 Chairman (94-95) and he was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award and was granted life membership. He was a self-taught man, able to accomplish anything through study and perseverance. That willingness to learn and to assist meant he was always busy in retirement helping someone. He was an incredible father, who loved being with his family. He will be missed by many but never forgotten. Arrangements are entrusted to the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, (905) 937-4444. In accordance with Sydney’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private family Funeral Mass will be taking place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lions Club of Canada Dog Guides.
