Obituary of Martin Maier
Peacefully with his family by his side, Martin passed away at the St. Catharines General Hospital on March 2, 2018 at the age of 88 after a lengthy and courageous battle with COPD. He leaves behind his wonderful wife of 64 years, Zita. Cherished father of Charles (Merlyn), Alfred (Joan), Rita, John (Tracy), and Lydia. Opa will also be missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Martin was a proud member of the Carpenter’s Local Union 18 for 62 years. In retirement he enjoyed tending his garden, reading, being in nature and spending time with family and friends. He will always be remembered for his blues eyes that twinkled with intelligence, a dry wit and laughter. We extend a sincere thank you to the incredible staff at the St. Catharines General Hospital, particularly Nurses Joyce and Mani for their outstanding care and compassion. Cremation has taken place, honoring Martin’s wishes. A Private Family Service and interment will take place at a later date. Donations to the Ontario Lung Association would be appreciated.
A limb has fallen from the family tree that says grieve not for me. Remember the BEST TIMES, the laughter, the song, and the good life I lived while I was strong!
